CONCEPT
Badlands is a clean-air salon and barbershop that is fully committed to reducing the toxic waste burden in our environment and our bodies, and providing an inclusive space for people to express themselves without the gender bias usually found in salons&barbershops. We do this by using only the safest non-toxic color and chemical-free, fragrance-free hair products. We use a color line that is made in small batches in New Hampshire called “All- Nutrient”, that uses all sustainable ingredients and is fragrance-free. For our styling, we use Afterworld Organics, which Badlands owner Deirdre formulated by hand in 2016 after becoming chemically sensitive. Afterworld is packaged in glass and paper, uses no chemical fragrance, and is completely non-toxic to the body. *for more info see PRODUCTS page

Deirdre opened the original Badlands Salon & Barber in Park Slope, Brooklyn in 2012, which ran for 12 successful years. During this time she became sick from multiple environmental toxins, and moved upstate to Kingston to rest and get her body healthy again. Unable to find any haircare products that were fragrance free and not bottled in plastic, she decided to formulate her own products— eventually becoming the Afterworld Organics haircare line. She was also studying alternative healing with her Naturopath in New Mexico, and In 2020 she decided to fully re-locate to Santa Fe. Afterworld is now selling in salons all over the USA and Europe, and Deirdre is a traveling educator spreading the word that salons don’t need to use toxic polluting haircare.
