DEIRDRE, owner

Deirdre received her cosmetology license in 2000 and spent seven years working in the New York City fashion industry, styling hair for runway shows, advertising campaigns, magazine editorial, television, and retail catalogs.

In 2005, she joined Guido Palau’s fashion week team and worked with him for six seasons, styling hair for New York’s top runway shows including Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. Although this experience provided a solid foundation of working with all types of hair in any situation, she yearned to work more intimately with people in a salon atmosphere, and decided to go back to school to perfect her cutting skills. In 2008 she moved to Los Angeles and started an apprenticeship at Sassoon Salon to learn precision cutting techniques. After Sassoon, she worked as a stylist at a trendy Barbershop in West Hollywood, honing her barbering skills with fades, clipper cuts, and pompadours. Deirdre moved back to Brooklyn in 2012 to open Badlands. In 2016 she created a non-toxic, cruelty-free haircare line called “Afterworld Organics” which is sold in salons across the USA, Europe, and Canada.

rEINA,MASTER STYLIST/MANAGER/CUTTING EDUCATOR

Reina is a cutting specialist who works with the natural texture of each person’s hair to achieve beautiful and effortless styles. She began her training and career at Vidal Sassoon in San Francisco, and went on to work at some of the cities best and most creative salons. 

She has been in Brooklyn since 2007 and maintains a strong following of loyal customers due to her master level of experience and years in the business. Reina is our cutting educator, helping our staff perfect their precision cutting skills.

jenn, SENIOR STYLIST

Jenn is a hairstylist and artist currently living and working in NYC. She is an accomplished editorial stylist who trained in cutting and color with Rusk and Toni&Guy, and also traveled as a platform stylist. Jenn enjoys working on short edgy cuts, andro and queer styles, and beautiful, fantasy color. Drawing upon her fine art skills and years of styling experience, she fuses creativity with technique, and utilizes her understanding of color and the geometry of the head shape to best compliment her clients lifestyle and hair texture.

Aimee, MASTER STYLISt/ manager/color educator

Aimee began her hair journey in the Pacific Northwest. She has always considered herself to be an artist, and hair is her medium of choice these days. She loves challenging color work, including balayage, fantasy color, highlights, ombre, and anything else that involves "painting" hair. Previously working at a barbershop in Oregon, she spent years mastering fades, short cuts, clipper work, and pixie cuts. Aimee is a perfectionist who radiates a calming, mellow, West Coast vibe, and is honored to be our general manager and color educator.

SAGE,SENIOR STYLIST

Sage has a love for all things hair- especially short queer cuts and fabulous fashion colors. They stand out for their meticulous listening skills and thoughtful approach—they take the extra time in order to really connect with people to provide accessible, radical, and affirming styles. Sage graduated from our master training program and has enjoyed a fast growing loyal following here at Badlands! In their free time, Sage also loves making pottery, cooking, and daydreaming about hairdressing.

KORI, SENIOR Stylist & barber

Kori has been doing hair since the age of 17. Her ever blossoming passion in hair has evolved from a deep interest in classic and modern barbering into the ever shifting landscape of revolutionary, radical and detail oriented queer hair styling. She invests time in creating an affirming space for each client who sits in her chair, while leading with vulnerability and a consent driven hair dressing model. When she isn't cutting hair she is flying around NYC on her bike, partaking in community events, or finding new ways to experience the fullness of life.

HELEN, SR. STYLIST

Helen has just graduated from our rigorous master training program and excells in custom fantasy color, highlights, bleach&tones, short queer cuts and barbering. Their pricing is lower than our educators, so book with Helen for a master level service at a great price! Helens attention to detail, super friendly personality, and excellent skills have built her a large following of happy clients at Badlands.
